Bio
I've loved Nature ever since I was a kid spending most of my summers in California tree houses, and the photos here reflect that passion. I have a growing interest in photographing people, so you will see more portraiture appearing in these galleries in the future.
I graduated from college with a degree in Liberal Studies (Expressive Arts) and a minor in biology, and was lucky enough to spend two summers as a Ranger Naturalist in Yellowstone National Park. There I had the priviledge of introducing hundreds of visitors to the wonders of the place, with its unique geology, flora and fauna.
After earning degrees in Chiropractic Sciences
and Human Biology at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, I moved to Minneapolis where I practiced healing work, taught at Northwestern College of Chiropractic, and had other adventures like raising a family and kayaking on Lake Superior, interspersed with periods of swatting hungry mosquitos, gnats & blackflies.
Photography has been an off & on passion of mine for about 40 years now. For some years it simmered on the back burner, but it came back to a rolling boil in 2003 when my wife and I hit the road for two years with a little trailer, armed with a new digital SLR camera, a laptop and Photoshop Elements.
I cherished the luxury of free time to engage with the steep learning curve associated with the new equipment. Adding solar power freed us up to camp wherever it was legal, and our overnights ranged from remote deserts to WalMart parking lots, as need and whim dictated. You will see some of the images from our two years of roaming in this site's galleries.
We now make our home in Ashland, OR, and I am blessed with two passion-vocations: photography and healing work. Both seem to invoke a process of perpetual learning. I'm excited about a project that will integrate my photography with the healing work in 2008 - more on this as it develops.
Mission
I feel the most important challenge for humanity at this juncture does not lie in conquering anything. That time is past, or soon will be. What lies before us now is the challenge of raising our consciousness and opening our hearts in regards to our relationships with ourselves and each other, with Spirit, and with this beautiful planet we call home. I want to help people remember their innate connection with Mother Nature and with each other.
It is crucial that we make the leap from seeing ourselves as separate individuals trying to survive and hoard as much as we can get, to a higher vision. We need to experience ourselves as integral parts of a larger, exquisitely interconnected whole, whose well being depends on mutual respect, cooperation and sharing.
My mission is to make that leap fully myself, and to help others to do the same. I offer my photography and healing work as my personal contributions to this enormous, exciting, and (at times) painful & frightening process of myself and humanity waking up.
Blessings, Dane Roubos, D.C.
